Dr. Robert Bowen is proud to offer the acclaimed non-surgical lifting procedure, Ultherapy.
What is Ultherapy?
Time and gravity inevitably take a toll on our skin – wrinkles begin to form and skin begins to sag and lose elasticity. And at one point in time the only way to address this was going under the knife. Ultherapy is a breakthrough technology aimed at fighting against these seemingly inescapable problems: the non-invasive facelift.
Ultherapy is the only FDA-cleared non-invasive treatment for lifting the skin on the neck, chin, and brow; and now it’s also the only non-invasive treatment specifically FDA-cleared to improve lines and wrinkles on the décolletage! Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound to stimulate the body’s natural regenerative response and collagen production to reach deep within the skin, with no downtime required. Ultrasound energy has safely been used in the medical and cosmetic field for over 50 years. The result? Tighter, better-fitting skin, from the brow to the chest! Ultherapy can easily be combined with other treatments to enhance your results even more.
Why is Ultherapy Unique?
Ultherapy is the only non-invasive treatment cleared by the FDA to actually lift skin.
Ultherapy is also the only cosmetic procedure to use ultrasound imaging which allows practitioners to see the layers of tissue targeted during the treatment to ensure the energy is deposited to where it will be most beneficial. These advances raise the brows, define the jawline, lift the cheeks, and improve skin tone and texture. With the addition of the new Ultherapy décolletage treatment, Ultherapy is also now the only non-invasive procedure specifically indicated by the FDA to improve lines and wrinkles on the chest.

Ultherapy vs Facelift Surgery
Ultherapy is similar to a surgical facelift as they both lift sagging skin and deep tissue. Ultherapy is not meant to replace facelifts, but rather offer a non-surgical option for those struggling with lax skin. And if you are sufficed with a not-so dramatic aesthetic change as a facelift would provide, then Ultherapy is a desirable route to go. Ultherapy offers noticeable lifted results with no cutting, no needles, no anesthesia, no lengthy procedure, and no downtime. Ultherapy is also less expensive than a surgical facelift. Both have their merits, but it all depends on what your aesthetic goals are. Many patients opting to receive Ultherapy are drawn to the non-invasive aspect and not having to interrupt their daily routine.
Ultherapy vs Other Devices
Ultherapy uses sound energy — tried-and-true ultrasound — which has unique properties that allow it to bypass the surface of the skin to treat depths not matched by any other non-invasive cosmetic device. Ultrasound stimulates collagen production in the skin’s foundation, resulting in a clinically significant lift of tissue over 2-3 months.
Each device is different and treats different problems. While Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy, other devices use radio frequency energy, infrared heat, cool temperatures, etc. There may be other devices that stimulate self healing and collagen production, but they do so by different means. Ultherapy is often noted as producing reliable, noticeable results. Other perks of Ultherapy are it’s tolerability and being able to see results after just one treatment, compared to other devices which need multiple treatments to see any results. Since technologies treat different types of skin issues, they are actually very compatible.
Candidates for an Ultherapy treatment are women and men who experience skin laxity on the face, neck, and chest, a lowered brow, or jowls. Some people can experience some of these symptoms as early as their 30’s. There are no serious contraindications, but patients cannot have open lesions, prominent acne, or dermal implants. Ultherapy can be used on all skin types, and is a great solution for those who do not want to undergo a surgical procedure.
It is important to understand what Ultherapy can and cannot accomplish.
It cannot duplicate the same dramatic results as a surgical facelift, but it can produce a more lifted appearance. It also does not not reduce the amount of fat in the treatment areas, but the lifted skin and tissue will enhance your profile. If you want to see results immediately after your session, this may not be the right treatment for you. Ultherapy works off the body’s natural healing response, so results show as you body heals. This differs from person to person, but on average best results are seen after a couple months. Aging is not a single-issue situation, and not one treatment does it all. So while Ultherapy is great for skin lifting and tightening, it can work great with other procedures.
During your consultation with cosmetic specialist Dr. Robert Bowen, you will explain the concerns you have with your face, neck, and/or chest skin. He will then perform a detailed examination and assess your problem areas and the quality of your skin. If deemed a good candidate, both you and he will determine the best personalized plan to provide you with optimal results. Bringing a picture of yourself when you were younger helps him greatly to deliver natural-looking results.
The length of the treatment will depend on the area being treated and your individual treatment plan. A face and neck takes 80 – 120 minutes, while a chest treatment takes approximately 30 minutes. The treatment begins with Dr. Bowen using a marker to divide your treatment area into different quadrants. This is to make sure that the appropriate amount of ultrasound energy is administered to each region evenly. Certain areas require more while the more delicate areas such as around the lip receive less energy. An ultrasound gel is then applied on the skin of the treatment areas.
Ultrasound technology will deliver gentle heat from the hand-held device which reaches deep into the fibro-muscular tissues. The heat causes controlled damage to the deepest layer of the dermis, which is what causes the body to initiate its natural regenerative healing state and stimulates an abundance of collagen formation. Collagen is a natural protein found in the body that is responsible for firming and toning the skin, giving people their youthful appearance. And with age, collagen production slows down which causing wrinkles and lax skin. So by targeting the healing process, wrinkles are reduced when filled in with the new collagen and lax skin is smoothed as the skin evens itself out naturally.
And since all of this happens underneath the skin, there is no appearance on the surface that you underwent any sort of treatment. You are able to undergo an Ultherapy treatment during a lunch break and return right back to work. Ultherapy results in both firming and smoothing of the skin, as well as a noted increase in patient’s confidence and self-esteem.
Discomfort level from the treatment varies from patient to patient. If experienced, it is only minimal discomfort felt when the machine is administering the energy, but subsides quickly after. The sensation is a signal that the healing process and collagen building has been initiated. The procedure can easily be adjusted based on each individual patient’s comfort threshold.
Our goal is to make you as comfortable as possible during your treatment so we will do all in our power to make sure it is a great experience for you.
There is no downtime necessary after an Ultherapy treatment; you can immediately go back to your daily routine. You may be able to see some immediate changes, but best results can be seen 2-3 months after your procedure as the body naturally produces collagen. Most patients only need one treatment to see their desired results, but you can go back for more treatments for even more significant results, looking younger as you age.
After an Ultherapy treatment with Dr. Robert Bowen, patients can enjoy lasting results. The exact amount of time results will last depends on the rate your body specifically regenerates new collagen and your natural aging process. And since the skin naturally ages and becomes lax with time, further touch-up treatments can help you maintain your results and fight against the natural aging process.
