ProFractional Therapy 2019-11-20T16:36:20+00:00

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Martinsburg and West Virginia

ProFractional Therapy™ is the latest in laser technology, and Dr. Bowen’s cosmetic medicine practice was the first physician’s office in West Virginia to offer it.  The Journal’s Health and Fitness section featured us for this reason in March 2008.

The real beauty of the ProFractional Therapy is that it allows physicians to treat problem skin more aggressively, but with less downtime, thereby providing superior results and greater value than previous laser treatments.

How Does it Work?

ProFractional Therapy is typically performed in a series of 1-4 treatments, spaced 3-6 weeks or more apart, depending on the skin issue being treated.

ProFractional improves the overall appearance of skin, and is used for the treatment of wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, sun-damaged skin, as well as traumatic scars, burn scars and acne scars.

Most skin areas can be treated.  Popular areas are the face, chest and hands.

ProFractional uses laser energy to create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin which are surrounded by areas of untreated skin.  The zones of untreated skin invigorate the body’s natural healing response.  The treatment stimulates the production of new collagen, which plumps up the skin and smoothes out wrinkles, lines, scars and other irregularities.

ProFractional is a dramatic improvement over treatments such as Fraxel and Thermage.  There is much less discomfort, it is less expensive, and ProFractional offers superior results.

What is the SOFT Technique

Dr. Bowen is the inventor of the SOFT™ technique, which uses the ProFractional Laser. SOFT (Selective Objective Fractional Technique) is a method in which the skin is treated according to its own characteristics, thereby achieving more dramatic results with fewer treatments.

As an example, a burn scar typically has significant variations in depth and texture, all within the “same” scar.  Therefore, “one” scar is actually made up of many areas, each needing to be treated according to its own unique characteristics.  The SOFT technique was developed precisely from this understanding of the variability of the skin.

Dr. Bowen loves to share this understanding and approach to skin rejuvenation with other physicians, including dermatologists and plastic surgeons.  He presented a paper on SOFT at the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) meeting in April 2009, at the Sciton Users Meeting in Chicago in July 2009, at the ASLMS meeting in Arizona in April 2010, and at the Sciton Summit Users’ Meeting in May 2010.

What Our Patients Are Saying…

I loved the results. I feel more confident and better about myself and I am looking forward to having more done later. The staff was very nice and made me feel at ease during my procedure.
