Conveniently located to serve the areas of Martinsburg and West Virginia

With age, your skin loses its once youthful glow. Halo hybrid fractional laser eliminates years of skin damage and gets that glow back.

What is Halo?

Halo by Sciton is the world’s first and only tunable hybrid fractional laser. This skin resurfacing and rejuvenation treatment addresses skin tone, skin texture, and skin tightening with one treatment, dual wavelengths, and minimal to no downtime. Generally, skin resurfacing treatments are performed with one of two types of lasers: ablative or non-ablative. Ablative treatments offer greater results but lengthy downtime, while non-ablative treatments don’t require the downtime but do not produce the same dramatic results.

With this state-of-the-art hybrid technology, Halo combines the two treatments, providing patients with dramatic results without the lengthy downtime. And the beauty of this hybrid procedure is the ability to tailor each treatment to the individual. Everyone’s skin is different and everyone has different needs. Halo offers customized treatments, providing patients with the exact glowing results they desire.

Conditions Treated / Areas Treated

A Halo treatment is specially designed to treat:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Discoloration
  • Age spots
  • Acne scars
  • Sun damage
  • Mild skin laxity
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Pore size

On the:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Hands

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates for a Halo treatment are women and men who are unhappy with discoloration of the skin, skin texture, and early signs of aging. The only contraindications are patients must be in good health and understand what a Halo treatment can and cannot accomplish. Halo hybrid fractional laser will provide you with a youthful, revitalized glow; it will not however provide results similar to that of a Face or Neck Lift. Further, Halo works off of your own body’s healing response, so results vary between patients. Halo can easily be combined with other cosmetic facial treatments for even more enhanced results.

How Does Halo Work?

Dual wavelengths = Customized treatment that reveals your luminous inner glow.

Halo is a two-in-one treatment. It utilizes two different wavelengths emitted from the same Sciton laser: ablative and non-ablative. Ablative wavelengths remove the damaged top layers of skin while non-ablative wavelengths stimulate collagen production and tighten the skin.

2940nm wavelength: Tunable 0-100 microns

Designed to remove the damaged top layers of skin, the ablative portion of the treatment is transmitted from erbium YAG wavelengths from the Sciton Halo laser. This process precisely heats and vaporizes water within damaged tissue that presents as conditions such as sun damage and wrinkles.

The Halo fractional laser only removes a fraction of the skin from the treatment area for precise results. This causes collagen fibers to shrink and a tight new layer of skin to form as the body heals itself.

1470nm wavelength: Tunable 100-700 microns

Non-ablation infrared wavelengths are transmitted from the same Sciton Halo laser to heat the skin and create micro-channels. These microscopic wounds initiate the body’s natural healing process and stimulates coagulation and collagen production. This in turn smooths and tightens the skin, while also addressing conditions like age spots and scarring.

Non-ablative wavelengths do not call for downtime as only underlying tissue is treated; the skin’s surface remains intact (when not performed with the additional ablative treatment.)

By combining these two modalities, patients are able to harness the amazing benefits of deep dermal skin rejuvenation and epidermal resurfacing with minimal downtime.

Halo vs BBL

Although both are used for skin rejuvenation, there are some key differences between Halo hybrid fractional laser and Broad Band Light (BBL): Halo is laser-energy based, whereas BBL emits pulsed light energy. The combination of ablative and non-ablative wavelengths grants Halo the ability to treat both skin tone and texture, while BBL is typically aimed at just skin tone and pigment. The broad energy of BBL generally makes it a “pick-me-up” treatment, not producing as dramatic results as Halo which works both on top and deep beneath the skin to reveal a youthful glow.

Both have their merits, so one is not necessarily “better” than the other. The two treatments can actually be performed together for even more dramatic results. Both produce lasting results, require little to no downtime, and results can be seen after just one treatment.

Benefits of Halo Hybrid Fractional Laser

  • There are 3 pre-programmed levels on the Halo basic mode for little to no downtime. Then there is Halo pro mode which allows Dr. Bowen to independently control the depth and coverage of each wavelength for customized results. Pro mode offers:
    • Level 0 for non-ablation
    • +20 microns of ablation for microscopic epidermal necrotic debris release with reduced downtime
    • +50-100 microns for epidermis and dermis synergistic wound healing
  • Dynamic thermal optimization measures skin temperature throughout the treatment and automatically changes pulse width and energy density to make certain that the laser is always adjusted to your individual specifications.
  • Optical navigation monitors the speed of the moving handpiece relative to the skin and automatically adjusts to ensure an even, accurate treatment.
  • Integrated cooling keeps the skin comfortable during the treatment.

During your consultation with Dr. Bowen, you will have the opportunity to explain how you would like to improve your face, neck, chest, or hands and your ultimate aesthetic desires. He will examine the areas and conditions you are concerned with and, taking into consideration your expectations, determine if you would benefit from a Halo treatment. He will explain the treatment process so you are fully aware of all aspects. It helps Dr. Bowen if you bring a picture of yourself from several years ago so he can customize the treatment to provide natural-looking results. You are encouraged to ask any questions you may have and Dr. Bowen will gladly answer them in detail.

Treatment Process

The treatment takes about 1-2 hours, depending on the specific case. A portion of this time is reserved for the numbing cream or local anesthetic to take effect, making sure you are as comfortable as possible throughout the process. Once effective numbing is achieved, Dr. Bowen will use the Sciton Halo fractional laser to transmit quick pulses of ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to appropriately remove the damaged outer layers of skin and create micro-channels. The Halo device is rolled uniformly over the treatment areas until the system recognizes that the treatment is complete. Integrated motion tracking technology helps ensure that all areas are treated evenly.

The body will then begin its natural healing response and reveal healthy, glowing skin. With the numbing and integrated cooling technology, there is little to no discomfort, as patients have reported only slight prickling sensations and warmth on occasion. Depending on the area and condition treated, patients may require multiple treatments for dramatic results.

Recovery / Results

After your treatment, a restorative skin cream will be applied on the treatment areas. Dr. Bowen will recommend a skincare regimen to keep your skin clean and hydrated throughout your healing process. Keeping the skin clean is very important for the recovery process. Some swelling and redness after your treatment is normal and will subside on its own. Any warm sensation of the treatment area will go away within a couple hours. Applying cold compresses can help calm the skin.

There is no downtime necessary after a Halo treatment; you are able to return to your daily routine with the proper skin protection. Applying moisturizer and sunscreen is a must for keeping the skin hydrated and protected. You may appear as though you are a bit sunburned, but makeup can easily cover any redness (just do not apply any makeup for the first 24 hours.)

The day after your treatment you may begin to notice small dark spots on the treatment areas; this is treated tissue leaving the body and making way for new, healthy skin. The skin will peel during this process (typically lasting 5-7 days) and may feel dry or rough. This is a normal occurrence as the body is ridding itself of damaged skin and regenerating fresh new skin. You are able to start seeing noticeable results within 2-5 days, better results 2-3 weeks after your treatment, and results continually improving over the months.

Once the regenerative healing process is completed, you can enjoy glowing, radiant skin for years to come. Results can be seen after just one treatment, but you can opt to come in for additional Halo treatments for even more enhanced results. These treatments can range from light for a quick pick-me-up to more intense for dramatic results. You can speak with Dr. Bowen during your consultation about how many treatments would give you the results you are looking for. Taking proper care of your skin, particularly protecting it from the sun, will help ensure lasting results.
