Microneedling improves scars, wrinkles, stretchmarks

What is microneedling?  A simple, in-office procedure, microneedling improves scars, wrinkles, and stretchmarks.  There is little to no downtime, and minimal discomfort.  It is based on inducing your body to do what it is designed to do: heal itself.

How does microneedling work?

A numbing cream is applied to the area to be treated to minimize discomfort.  The microneedling device glides over the skin while a sterile, stainless steel needle cartridge creates thousands of tiny perforations or microchannels in the skin.  This encourages the body to respond to the “injury” by sending growth factors and platelets to repair the skin and produce more collagen and elastin.  The perforations also allow any topical agents (such as hyaluronic acid or PRP) to be absorbed more effectively and efficiently deep in the layers of the skin where they can work best.

What areas can be treated?

Microneedling can be used on all skin types to address a variety of concerns. Almost all areas of the body can be treated unless your medical provider determines otherwise.

  • Face
  • Arms
  • Neck
  • Legs
  • Décolletage
  • Abdomen
  • Hands
  • Back

How long will it take to recover?

Most of the time there isn’t really any “downtime” with microneedling.  You may be a little pink to moderately red in the area for a few hours, up to about 24 hours.  You might notice light to moderate flaking for a day or two as the skin heals and new, younger cells form.  You can wear mineral makeup (best, since it discourages bacterial growth) the next day.

When will I see my results?

Typically within 48-72 hours there is a noticeable difference in your skin.  Whatever light flaking you may have seen has usually resolved and skin texture is smoother than before the treatment.  Pores may appear smaller, and overall appearance is brighter and tighter. The most wonderful thing about microneedling is that it continues to improve over time. And with regular treatments, the results are cumulative and long-lasting.

Microneedling can be used to:

  • Improve skin texture
  • Decrease fine lines & wrinkles
  • Smooth scars and stretch marks
  • Reduce the appearance of acne scars
  • Tighten and tone skin
